We can now only serve residents of the 40202 area. Unfortunately, food donations have been declining city-wide. We have loved serving everyone in Louisville but cannot keep up with demand. For a list of food pantries serving your area, please click on the following link:
Since the mid-1990s, First Lutheran Church has been the site of a food pantry, in partnership with Dare to Care. We are open from 11-1 on Tuesday and Wednesday and 4-6 on Thursday. We are closed the second Tuesday of each month for our big delivery.
Our food pantry would not be possible without a dedicated group of volunteers. Some come almost daily, some once a week and others only once a month. They are all fun, dedicated people and a joy to work with.
Most of our clients live downtown, are elderly or disabled. We also have several clients experiencing homelessness and we try to be informative about other services offered in the area.
The food pantry receives the bulk of our food from the Dare to Care agency. We also have a Kroger Barrel that provides extra. A Dollar General store gives us milk that would otherwise be discarded, and generous members of the church donate funds that are used to purchase soap, toilet paper and eggs.
Anyone interested in volunteering should contact the office at 502-584-4926. There are several jobs. We need people who can pick up and deliver donated food, bag up cans of food, enter data into the computer, interact with our customers or even just walk them to their cars to help load.
